An Introduction to BOTOX and Dermal Fillers
Are BOTOX and dermal fillers the same thing? Both products are minimally invasive cosmetic treatments administered through injections, but while BOTOX reduces wrinkles on the surface of the skin, dermal fillers add fullness to facial areas that have lost volume and smoothness.
A BOTOX injection typically lasts about 3 months. When used to decrease the stress from “clenching” to help relieve headache pain, the results generally last 4 – 5 months. The results of dermal fillers generally last from 6 months to 2 years, during which time the results gradually diminish.
About BOTOX Injections
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate and severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults. These types of lines are referred to as dynamic wrinkles or expression lines because they are caused by changing facial expressions and typically develop in the upper face. BOTOX works by preventing acetylcholine transmission in targeted muscles by impeding the muscle contraction.
About Dermal Filler Injections
Fillers are made from various substances, each of which treats a specific cosmetic problem or symptom of aging. Dermal fillers are injected beneath the skin’s surface to plump up sunken areas and soften static facial wrinkles, which are caused by the loss of elasticity that comes with aging. Fillers can even be used to fill in recessed scars. Fillers are commonly injected into the lips, around the mouth and along the cheeks.
